The Aluminium 7050 alloy is a robust, heat-treatable member of the 7000-series aluminium family. Its typical composition includes zinc (around 5.7 – 6.7%), copper (about 2.0 – 2.6%), magnesium (roughly 1.9 – 2.6%), and zirconium (approximately 0.08 – 0.15%), along with trace amounts of silicon, iron, chromium, and titanium. Mechanically, this alloy, when properly tempered, boasts ultimate tensile strengths between 490 – 570 MPa and yield strengths ranging from about 390 – 490 MPa, with elongation values typically falling between 7% and over 11%. This impressive combination of high strength and excellent fatigue/stress-corrosion resistance makes it perfect for demanding structural applications.
